MtMan-List: MtMan List: If you were there today....
In my research and reading, the month of March usually signaled the
start for the Rockies by the fur companies with their supplies for the
summer Rendezvous. Fitzpatrick, Sublette & Campbell just to name a
few, had to wait for this month for both the weather to get better and
especially for the grass to be of sufficient size for their horses and
mules to feed on before they could leave St. Louis. Although this year
looks to be a bit warmer than normal, none the less I thought it might
be of interest to us students of the Fur Trade to take a look at what
weather conditions would await us if we would be on the trail today
heading from St.Louis along the normal route taken by these men to the
area of Green River, Wyoming, etc. for the Rendezvous and even beyond as
far as Ft. Vancouver and Astoria.
